Week 5 Newsletter

Thank you for another fantastic week at Camp Mesorah! This past week brought a perfect balance of high-energy activities, meaningful moments, and everything in between. Campers embraced new adventures, celebrated friendships, and enjoyed some truly special experiences that captured the heart of the summer.

From hiking trails to heartfelt celebrations, the week was filled with action and purpose. A major highlight of the week was the visit from cookbook author and culinary influencer Chanie Apfelbaum of Busy in Brooklyn. She led an exclusive cooking demo for our upper staff and brought her signature flair to camper-run Chopped competitions, where creativity, teamwork, and kitchen confidence were on full display. Campers loved the opportunity to think on their feet and whip up delicious dishes!

As we close out the first month of camp, we say goodbye to our incredible first-month campers who brought so much energy, ruach, and joy to Camp Mesorah. Their presence was felt in every cheer, every activity, and every Shabbat song, and they will be deeply missed. At the same time, we are so excited to welcome our second-month campers, who are already bringing fresh excitement and spirit to camp. We can’t wait to see how this next chapter of the summer unfolds, with new friendships, unforgettable memories, and continued growth for every camper in our Mesorah family.

Nighttime brought its own brand of excitement and fun across campus. The boys jumped into everything from culinary competitions and soccer matches to scavenger hunts and the always-entertaining Rock Paper Scissors Tournament. The girls explored a mix of relaxation and energy. From spa nights and water tag paint battles to Human Pac Man and a suspense-filled game of Panic. The entire camp came together for a glowing campwide night activity, a mesmerizing fire show, and themed programs like Yoga Night, IDF training challenges, and a creative “Around the World” adventure. Whether active or reflective, each night offered a unique way for campers to unwind, connect, and create lasting memories.

Today, the girls campus came together for a beautiful and heartfelt Challah Bake. Before beginning, we took time to daven for cholim, for the hostages still in captivity, and for the safety and unity of Klal Yisrael. As we mixed the dough, we learned about the deeper meaning behind each ingredient. How flour represents sustenance, water symbolizes Torah, and oil and sugar remind us to infuse sweetness and light into everything we do. The act of kneading, shaping, and separating challah became not just a mitzvah, but a moment of connection;to each other, to our people, and to Hashem. It was a powerful reminder of the strength we hold when we come together with purpose and tefillah.

As we look ahead, we are mindful that Tisha B’Av falls on Motzei Shabbat. As always, we will approach this meaningful day with sensitivity and intention. The weekly video will be sent out next week. Stay tuned for more highlights from this unforgettable summer journey.

May our achdut as a camp and as a people serve as a zechut for the rebuilding of the Beit HaMikdash, and may we merit to see the coming of Mashiach bimheira b’yameinu.

Shabbat Shalom and an easy and meaningful fast to all.
