Week 7 Newsletter
Week 7 at Camp Mesorah was one for the books. A perfect blend of energy, meaning, and togetherness. The week began with excitement with Sunday night’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah Bash which lit up the camp with music, laughter, and pure joy. Campers enjoyed dancing, games, and plenty of treats, celebrating milestones together in true Mesorah style. But just when they thought the night was winding down, the lights, music, and cheers shifted. Color War had officially broken out! The surprise ending sent campers into a frenzy of excitement, and the competition was on.
For the next three incredible days, the camp was divided into teams, each pouring heart and soul into every challenge. The fields saw relay races, tug-of-war, and creative athletic competitions. In the Beit Midrash and around camp, teams showcased their knowledge in Torah quizzes, their voices in spirited cheers, and their creativity in elaborate murals and presentations. From engineering projects to dance-offs, each activity showed how much talent and teamwork thrives here. Even in the heat of competition, sportsmanship shone through. Encouraging words from one team to another, high-fives after a hard-fought game, and cheers for great plays regardless of team.
Throughout Color War, our theme of Branches (blue team) and Roots (orange team), Anafim and Shorashim, kept surfacing. We spoke about the strength we gain from our roots: the Torah learning, values, and traditions that ground us. We celebrated the beauty of our branches: the friendships, creativity, and leadership skills that keep growing higher. Moments from the Nevi’im, the Mishnah, and the Midrash reminded us that just as a tree flourishes when its roots are deep and strong, we too thrive when we stay connected to our source while reaching upward and outward. This message seemed to echo in every cheer, every dance, and every act of kindness that happened between campers. The Orange Team took first place, wrapping up Color War with a well-earned win!
By Thursday, the camp’s energy shifted from competition back to unity, as everyone came together for Shabbat preparations and a chance to relax after the whirlwind of Color War. That evening, we were treated to a remarkable concert by Zusha, whose soulful music filled the night air and brought the entire camp together in song, harmony, and joy. It was a moment that transcended the ordinary. A shared experience that will be remembered for years to come.
Looking back, Week 7 was more than just a collection of events. It was a living example of what makes Camp Mesorah so special. We celebrated milestones, challenged ourselves, leaned on each other, and found new ways to grow, rooted deeply in our shared heritage, and stretching ever upward into new possibilities. With less than a week of camp ahead, we can’t wait to see what branches we’ll grow and how our roots will keep us strong. Shabbat Shalom!
